计算需要 & 预期家庭贡献

你所报道的信息 CSS档案 和 Free 应用程序 for Federal Student 援助 (FAFSA) is used to estimate your family's financial strength 和 your 预期家庭贡献(EFC). The EFC is an estimate of the amount you 和 your family are expected to contribute to your annual educational expenses. Those funds may come from current income, savings 和/or family borrowing.

你的 财务需要 is then calculated by subtracting your 预期家庭贡献 from your total cost of attendance.

Cost of Attendance - EFC = Financial Need

The total amount of your need-based aid cannot exceed your calculated 财务需要.

资格的考虑

你的 预期家庭贡献 is used in determining your eligibility for a variety of different financial aid awards.

  • Eligibility for need-based DU scholarships

Eligibility for DU need-based aid is determined with information from the CSS档案 和 CSS Institutional Methodology calculations, 加上一些学校特有的修改. These calculations are proven to give a fair 和 reasonable assessment of a family's financial strength.

Family income is one of several factors considered. Other factors include the number of household members, the number of siblings or certain other household members attending college as undergraduates, 和 the financial assets of both students 和 parents. The DU calculation of total income usually excludes certain losses 和 includes certain types of tax-deferred income.

    The 预期家庭贡献(EFC) consists of...
    • A parental contribution, calculated from income 和 assets.
    • 25 percent of the student's accumulated savings 和 other assets.
    • A minimum contribution from student earnings, usually from summer employment (new dependent students = $1,800; current dependent students = $2,400; independent students = $3,300).

使用我们的 快速成本估算器 or 净价计算器 to help you estimate how much your family will be expected to pay.

  • 获得联邦援助的资格

Eligibility for federal financial aid is determined with the information from the FAFSA 和 federally legislated formulas. There is no minimum student contribution (EFC) in the federal calculation.

Once your FAFSA is complete 和 processed by the Department of Education, you'll receive your Student 援助 Report (SAR). 你的 federal EFC will be displayed in the upper right-h和 corner of your SAR, which is used to calculate your eligibility for federal grants.

  • 续期资助的资格

If your 财务需要 has not changed substantially 和 you meet all other eligibility criteria, you can expect your aid to be renewed in subsequent years.

然而, changes in your family's financial circumstances, such as income or the number of household members attending college, will affect your need 和 eligibility for need-based aid. Since the number of children in college substantially reduces the EFC for each child, changes in this number will usually significantly affect the amount of financial aid awarded.
